NY Foster Closet supports infants, children, and young adults in care. We are a notfor-profit 501 (c) (3) reliant entirely on clothing donations and community volunteers. Our mission is to provide a dignified shopping experience for foster families . . . FREE of charge. Our items include clothing, coats, shoes, hygiene essentials, car seats and strollers and so much more. We collect seasonal donations throughout the year and with the help of our volunteers, we are able to sort, organize, and hang clothing to showcase for customers. WNY Foster Closet was born from the idea that families who are willing to open their hearts and homes, deserve support from others who understand the tears and anguish that come with saying ‘yes’ to fostering. Too often, children in care, are brought to their temporary ‘safe’ home with little or nothing of their own. Imagine being instantly removed from everything familiar which comforts you, despite the dangerous environment, and then placed with strangers. Perhaps even a family member, but you arrive with nothing that belongs to you. Our story In 2018, we - three fellow foster moms - began collecting clothing at our residences to distribute to other foster families. (Together, we have cumulatively fostered children for over 20 years.) Quickly, we realized we needed a dedicated and larger space. Then we found Townline Lutheran Church in Alden. They allowed us to occupy their basement and invite foster families to shop. The demand has been astounding! However, again, we realized we needed to find space that would be larger and more accessible. Enter Eastern Hills Mall! It was the perfect location - where we can serve so many more foster families. Our foster closet is much more than clothing. When we began this journey, we never realized this space would provide a place for friendship, tears and support to families who shop with us. Volunteers We are always looking for volunteers to help! Our volunteers vary, from high school students earning community service hours, young women and men earning their badges for Scouts of America, synagogues, members of church congregations, and local members of the community who believe we can make a difference. Please join us, in any capacity, be it clothing donations, your time, resources or funding. Moving to your neighborhood is an honor and we look forward to being a part of your community. Stop in and say, Hello! We are found nearest to the food court entrance!
